Excellent, definately worth reading.
Very good, worth your while.
Okay, an average novel.
Not great, hard to read.

The Last Unicorn
by Peter S. Beagle.
Approximately 215 pages.
This is the story of a unicorn heroine who travels in search of her brethren. She makes allies of a hap-hazard wizard, Shmendrick, and a wasted maiden named Molly Grue.  A beautiful, simple story of loss and love, and I enjoyed the book as much as the movie.

The Neverending Story
by Michael Ende.
                   Approximately 380 pages.
This is a story of a lonely boy named Bastien, who seeks companionship in book characters, who are incredibly real.  This book is very good, but takes away from impression movie made. It's longer, and goes into details of Bastien's rebuilding of FANTASIA. I liked it, but if you love the movie, don't rush to read the book.

The Princess Bride
by William Goldman.
Approximately 230 pages.
This book is the touching story about True Love, and how it conqures all, even death. The young maiden Buttercup and her love, Wesley, face enormous odds in the face of evil.  This book is what the movie is based on, and is very much the same. In a way, it's better, because of the written  details, But forever in my mind I have the impression of Westley rolling down the cliff saying, "As youuuu wiiisssshhh....."

Daggerspell
by Katharine Kerr.
                   Approximately 410 pages.
This story is about a curse of one man, who must remain immortal to correct the wrongs he did to the ones he loved. He must find the reincarnated forms of his past love and friends, and undo the damage he did, so his soul can rest in peace.  I loved this book, which is kinda like three books in one. It tells the different lives of the characters, and is really  worth picking up.

Darkspell
by Katharine Kerr.
Approximately 400 pages.
This is the continuing series involving Nevyn and his quest to correct the past. Again flashes of their past lives are shown, and the failings of Nevyn to save them.  Not as great as the first book, still very enjoyable. Didn't take me very long to read this one. I loved the characters, and couldn't get away from the flashbacks. You can't not read this one if you've already read the first.

Fahrenheit 451 ...the Temperature at Which Books Burn
by Ray Bradbury.
                   Approximately 185 pages.
This is the classic story of the downfall of society and the repression of free knowledge and thought. A man must find the way to free himself from a world denied the pleasure of reading, and freedom of thought. The only one that can make him realize the truth is a cataclysmic girl.
A really good book, especially if you like getting mad! I had to read this for my senior English class, and this one I actually liked. It stirred deep emotional responses from me. It's pretty fast reading, but gets slower as you go. Finish it though, you'll appriciate the insight later.

Dragonflight
by Anne McCaffrey.
Approximately 300 pages.
This is a world famous novel about the fight to save the world of Pern from the deadly rain of Thread. A young woman, Lessa, with her golden queen dragon, Ramoth, will bring back the lost Dragonriders to fight for life. This book was one of the first fantasy books I read, and I have re-read it several times because of the joy it brought me. Definately pick this one up if your a fantasy or sci-fi lover. It is one of the classics of the genre, and a must read!

  Dragonquest
by Anne McCaffrey.
                   Approximately 300 pages.
With Lessa and F'lar the leaders of Bendan, the dragonriders of Pern continue their fight against the Thread, but the dragonriders are also searching for a way to rid themselves of the plague of silver-fire rain forever, even if it leads them to the deadly Red Star itself.  This book is wonderful, and I believe the best in the series. I have read it at least five times, and discovered new things each time. Definately take time out to read this one, it's a classic.

The White Dragon
by Anne McCaffrey.
Approximately 300 pages.
Jaxon, the young Lord Holder of Ruatha, and his little white dragon, Ruth, must battle controversy and tradition to become what they were meant to be, dragon and rider. Faced with a mission to keep dragon from flaming dragon, Jaxom and Ruth have only each other, and some foreign fire-lizards to give them hope.  This sequel not only looks into the lives of the familar characters from the first book, but gives insight to new characters, the next generation. I loved this one as well, and have a particular liking to Jaxom, and like to go back and read the scenes where he is the main focus.

Dragonsong.
by Anne McCaffrey.
                   Approximately 100 pages.
A young seaholder girl dreams of making music, but her parents deny her of this wish. She flees from her home and inadvertantly impresses nine fire-lizards, the cousins of the larger dragons. She finds her life flipped around as her dreams slowly begin to come true.  Every young girl may have once wished to be as Menolly, seeking freedom, and finding nine small companions on the way. This is no exception for me. I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who has, or hasn't read the previous Pern novels.

Dragonsinger
by Anne McCaffrey.
Approximately 100 pages.
Menolly is off to the HarperCraft Hall, to being her training as an apprentice. Life in the hold is hard for Menolly, for she is descrinated for not being like everyone else. She makes a few lasting friends, though, and finds herself drawn from her old life into this new one.  Again, people may find some of Menolly's situations similar to real life. This one is not quite as good as the first, but is still a good read if you want to know what's happening to Menolly.

Dragondrums
by Anne McCaffrey.
                   Approximately 100 pages.
Piemur's life hasn't been an easy one. Scoundrel, thief, and outcast, his changing voice and position in Harper Hall has him thinking. His kind, loving attidtude gets him into trouble, but will he get out again?  A great angle on life in Harper Hall. You can really see what's going on in this book, and again, McCaffrey shows us the cruelty of people in any world.
