This album blends some of the most beautiful voices into traditional celtic songs. The intrstruments give haunting accompaniment to some songs, and beautiful blendings with others. This CD features the talents of Mary McLaughlin, Connie Dover, Maireid Sullivan and Emma Christian.
I have two favorite tracks on this CD, though I love them all. Both of my favorites are sung by Connie Dover. They are, The Wishing Well, and Siúil Rúin. They are both very heartfelt and poignaint.

Over the waves, you call to me
Shadow of dream, ancient mystery
Oh how I long for your sweet caress
Oh how I long for your gentleness
Torn between sea mists and solid land
Nights when I've ached for a human hand
I'll come to you while the moon shines bright
But I must go free with the first streak of light
Over the waves, you call to me
Shadow of dream, ancient mystery
Oh how I long for you sweet caress
Oh how I long for your gentleness
Is it true that you've come back, is it true that you're here
Is is true after all this time the cycle's complete
And have you brought the wisdom that we had, then lost
Oh have you brought the peace that we've been aching for.
Is it true you've been waiting for your chance to come
Is it true that you're coming now, like song on the wind
And have you brought the wisdom that we lost when found
Oh have you brought the peace as balm for our wounds
Is is true you knew the answers when you were last here
There was no one in this land who couldn't hear
So bring us back the wisdome we were forced to let go
Oh bring us back the peace to feed our hungry souls.
Repeat Verse One
Oh can you bring the peace that we're all aching for
Oh can you bring the peace that we're all aching for
Oh can you bring the peace...
When you wake in the morning it's always there
This love that aches, this love that's breaking you
That goes nowhere
And though you call out his name it's empty air
For after all his words of love he's just not there
Chorus:
Oh fool to try to find love where love can't be found
Oh fool to try to harvest on barren ground
For when he looked at you as he left tonight
You saw his eyes — cold eyes
When you wake in the morning he might be there
This love that aches, this love that's tearing you
He just might stay
And though you're reaching out to him it's empty air
For after all his words of love he's just not there
Repeat Chorus Twice
His the doom, ours the mirth
When he came down to earth
Flower of Jesse's tree
Born on earth to save us
Him the Father gave us.
Ideo, ideo
Therefore,
Ideo gloria in excelsis Deo
"Glory to God in the highest."
Is airiú!
'S ariu!
Agus a leanbh
And what shall I do,
Cad a dhéanfaidh mé?
My child?
Tá tú ar shiúl uaim
You've been gone from me
Agus airiú!
For a long time. 'S ariu!
Jesukin
Lives my quiet cell within
Thou in me dwelling
all is lie but Jesukin.
Jesu of the skies
My little one, Thou my delight
I with Thee, Thou with me
Next my heart through every night.
Is airiú! Who hangs from
Yonder passion tree?
Your son, dear Mother,
Do you knot know me?
Judas, James and John
Have you seen my only son?
Ochon! My eyes are blind!
Ochon! My heart is wrung!
Stella Maris, Semper Clara
Star of the Sea, ever bright,
Rosa Munde, Res Miranda
Spotless Rose, most admirable
Misterium Mirablile
Wondrous Mystery.
Is airiú agus ochón!
Sad I am till you return
To have you at the break of dawn
Ochón airiú! Without you!
When first I saw you,
I saw beauty,
And I blinded my eyes
For fear that I should weep.
When first I heard you,
I heard sweetness,
And I turned away,
For fear of my weakness.
I blinded my eyes,
My face I turned away,
I hardened my heart.
For fear of my ruin.
Thíos ag cois na farraige bhí teach 'g mo mhuinntir féin
mo mhamaí 'gus mo dheaidí 'gus mo chairde 'lig 'en tsaol
Refrain:
Guígí ar bhú bpaidrín 'ach oích' ag gabháil
'na leapa daoibh
I ndúil go mbeinn sa bhaile 'gaibh in aimsir bhaint an fhéir
A chainlíní, nach trua libh mo scéal
Mise gabháil thar farraige 's gan cead a hilleadh 'e choích'
Rachaidh mé go h-Albain 's ní phillfidh mé go h-éag
Tiocfaidh mé 'na bhaile agus beidh mé brúite tinn
(translation)
Down by the sea was my people's house,
My Mommy and my Daddy and all of my friends.
Refrain:
When you go to your bed every evening, say a prayer for me,
That I will be home in time for the cutting of the hay.
All you girls, won't you take pity on my plight?
Me, going over the sea without permission ever to return.
I will go to Scotland, and I will never return,
And when i do come home again, i will be crushed with pain.
I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel,
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
Refrain:
Siúil, siúil, siúil, a rúin
Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciún
Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red
And it's round the world I'll beg for bread
Until my parents would wish me dead
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
And now my love had gone to France
to try his fortune to advance
If he e'er comes back 'tis but a chance
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
Refrain
(Refrain Translation)
Go, go, go love
Go smoothly and quietly
Go to the door and escape with me
And may you go safe, my darling.
Colour me
by the river and the water of the deep blue sea
it's just me
breaking down the walls upon the shifting sands
Ah — something has begun
Ah — this dream won't come undone
crumbling grey-clad city walls
hide our ancient lore
Ah — this treasure we have won
Colour me
painting with a memory that used to be
it's just me
echoing the music of a distant land
She Moved Through the Fair
Traditional; arranged by Dónal Lunny and Mairéid Sullivan. Lyrics by Padraic Colum
My young love said to me
my parents won't mind
and my father won't slight you
for your lack of kind
Then she stepped away from me
and this she did say
"It will not be long love
'til our wedding day."
She stepped away from me
and she moved through the fair
and fondly I watched her
move here and move there
Then she went her way homeward
with one star awake
as the swan in the evening
moved over the lake
The people were saying
no two were er'e wed
But one had a sorrow
that never was said
She went her way homeward
with her goods and her gear
and that was the last
that I saw of my dear
Last night she came to me
my dead love came in
so softly she entered
her feet made no din
She put her hand on me
and this she did say
"It will not be long love
'til our wedding day"
